Inside Penalty Shoot-Out: expanding Evoplay’s winning franchise

Football has a special place in the region, so the game helped the series strengthen its local relevance, expand its regional presence, and support stronger rankings in key markets.

This step showed that Penalty Shoot-Out could work as more than a single successful title. It had the right base for a wider franchise: a beloved theme, simple gameplay, fast rounds, and enough flexibility to adapt the experience for different markets and player expectations.

The franchise moved into event-driven releases

The success of the first two titles was not accidental. Football gives something few themes can offer: instant recognition and a huge global audience. 

For players, the format feels familiar from the first second. For operators, it offers a topic with a proven international appeal.

The scale also speaks for itself. Nielsen’s 2025 Global Sports Report says that 51% of the global population are football fans, while FIFA states the sport is followed by 5 billion people worldwide

Major tournaments keep proving the point. The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 engaged around 5 billion people, and the final reached close to 1.5 billion viewers. UEFA EURO 2024 also delivered a cumulative live global TV audience of 5.4 billion.

For Evoplay, this made football a clear long-term direction for the franchise. In the wider gaming world, releases often connect to major events, seasons, and cultural moments. The same logic works in iGaming when the theme already has strong audience attention. 

That thinking led to Penalty Shoot-Out: Super Cup, released in February 2025 as an event-driven title built around tournament energy.

This was not only a creative assumption. Penalty Shoot-Out: Super Cup showed how such positioning can work in practice, especially in LatAm, where the sport has strong cultural weight.

After the strong results of Penalty Shoot-Out: Super Cup, the next step was clear. Evoplay continued developing the franchise and released Penalty Shoot Out: Cup Mania, a title built on the same simple football tension but with a more advanced experience.

Cup Mania keeps the core idea that made the series work: one penalty, one decision, one instant emotional moment. The player understands the game quickly, but each round still carries pressure because every successful shot moves them further through the multiplier progression.

The game takes the franchise forward. Penalty Shoot Out: Cup Mania brings:

  • improved visuals
  • smoother animation
  • stronger sound design
  • a more polished UX/UI

It also adds features that give the instant format more depth, including a 15-level multiplier progression and Bonus Buy – a feature that gives players faster access to the bonus round and adds flexibility to the gameplay. 

It’s more common in slots, but we decided to experiment, spicing up an instant game with something rarely used.
